Chairman Emeritus John Morrell
John Morrell is Chairman Emeritus at Higgs Fletcher & Mack, having previously served as Managing Partner for the firm over a 20-year period. Under his leadership, Higgs Fletcher & Mack realized a more than 17 percent increase in revenue over the past four years and reached a record number of attorneys. He has also continued the streak of never having any professional layoffs since he became CEO in 1997.
Morrell has accomplished these seemingly improbable – if not impossible – feats by hiring the right talent and paying close attention to customer service as well as how efficient Higgs Fletcher & Mack’s internal processes ran. He made prudent investments in his people within the last year, most notably by launching the firm’s first multi-week Business Development Forum complete with an aggressive curriculum and rigorous tasks requirements to graduate. This and other programs are designed to ensure the greatest possible productive and profitable work environment at Higgs Fletcher & Mack.
Mr. Morrell received the United States Bankruptcy Court’s Mediator of the Year award in 2007, the University of San Diego School of Law’s Distinguished Alumni award in 2015, and the San Diego Business Journal’s Most Admired CEO award in 2011 and 2015. He is a 2013 graduate of LEAD San Diego and president elect of the Downtown San Diego Rotary Club. He served as Vice President of the San Diego County Bar Association in 2003 and served on its Board of Directors from 2001 through 2003. He also served as President of the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum in 1997 and was on its Board of Directors from 1996 through 1998. He is the proud father of two Eagle Scouts and a third generation San Diegan.
In Mr. Morrell’s role as Chairman Emeritus he remains affiliated with the firm and working with the new Managing Partner and Chairman, but will not be actively practicing law.
