Higgs’ Real Estate Partner Doug Kerner was part of a team of land use and aerospace experts recognized by the San Diego American Planning Association (SDAPA) with the 2016 Economic Planning and Development Award last month.
Kerner served on the Aerotropolis Committee and used his considerable experience as a land use attorney to fill the role as the primary editor for the Study.
Held at the Encinitas Public Library, the group was commended for its preparation of the “Brown Field Airport Aerotropolis Study.” The Study, which took a year to prepare under the sponsorship of the South County Economic Development Council, examined the feasibility of utilizing the Brown Field Airport as a driver of business location and urban development. The term “Aerotropolis” is derived from the author and educator, John D. Kasarda, based on his seminal book on airport-driven economic development.
“I truly enjoyed being a part of such a diverse and knowledgeable group of professionals, all of whom contributed their unique expertise to make this an award-winning study,” shared Kerner. “There are many exciting things happening in South San Diego County and I’m honored and privileged to be able to contribute to its ongoing success.”
