SAN DIEGO (September 9, 2020): Higgs Fletcher & Mack (HFM) attorneys Rachel Moffitt Garrard and Jamie Ritterbeck were named to The Daily Transcript’s list of “Top 40 Under 40” and included in a special feature in the paper today.

According to The Daily Transcript, the publications considered “rising stars in real estate, construction, law, financial services, government, nonprofit organizations, and individual business owner/operators” in making its selection. The list reflects “San Diego’s top young professionals who have made an impact on their company/organization, industry and community.”

“This is a very well deserved honor for both Rachel and Jamie, who not only excel in their law practices but who are also engaged in our legal community and have handled some very important and visible pro bono cases,” said Steve Cologne, HFM Managing Partner. “I am confident that Rachel and Jamie will continue to thrive through their work on behalf of our clients and community.”

Garrard handles appellate matters in both State and Federal court and made her first argument before the California Supreme Court in October of 2019. Her pro bono work includes representing immigrants in challenging asylum cases and assisting transgender individuals seeking name or gender marker changes.

Ritterbeck’s practice focuses on complex business disputes, employment law matters, and torts.  She represents and advises clients during prelitigation and in state and federal courts, and has extensive experience handling significant exposure matters. Her service to the community includes handling matters on behalf of service members who have been deployed through the county bar association’s Service Members Civil Relief Act program.

Together, Garrard and Ritterbeck have teamed up to represent a 15-year-old boy from Guatemala who fled his country due to years of violence by members of the internationally connected MS-13 gang.  After more than a year, the boy was granted political asylum.

Garrard earned her law degree magna cum laude from California Western School of Law, and Ritterbeck earned her law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.
