– Firm welcomes Roger W.R. Clayton III, John Nielsen; Duo will assist with healthcare, business litigation, tort matters –
SAN DIEGO– September 1, 2015 – Higgs Fletcher & Mack, a San Diego-based, full-service law firm for 75 years, announced today the addition of Roger W.R. Clayton III and John Nielsen as its newest associates.
Clayton will assist Higgs’ Will Miller and Steve Cologne with healthcare and business litigation matters while Nielsen will work with Steve Pelletier and Pete Doody on business litigation and tort.

Clayton comes to the firm from Webb and Bordson, APC where he conducted extensive discovery, routinely produced pleadings, motions and attorney/client correspondences as well as advocated for both plaintiffs and defendants with a focus on employment and business litigation. Prior to that, he was a law clerk at the same firm where he helped secure and enforce a $1 million judgment in a complex business and intellectual property case. Other experience includes Legal Intern-Corporate Compliance for UnityPoint Health-Methodist and Judicial Extern to the Honorable John A. Houston for the United State District Court, Southern California District. Clayton received his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Philosophy with a Minor in African Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He obtained his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in 2014 and was awarded the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy Full Tuition Scholarship at the institution. In addition to being named to the Dean’s List, Clayton was a Finalist for the 1L Appellate Oral Argument and received the Academic Achievement Award for obtaining the highest grade in various classes. He is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, North County Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Tom Homann Law Association, California Western School of Law Alumni Board, Public Service Honors Society, Health Law Society and Supreme Court Historical Society.
Prior to joining Higgs, Nielsen was an associate attorney at Greer & Associates, APC. In this role, he defended medical malpractice cases in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Kern, San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial Counties. In addition, Nielsen conducted numerous depositions of plaintiffs, medical providers, medical experts and defended depositions of defendants and defense experts. He was also responsible assisting with trial preparation and the development of trial strategies. Before that, Nielsen was an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Barton Hegeler and assisted with the defense of medical malpractice cases in San Diego County as well as with trial and arbitration preparation on behalf of physicians and medical groups. Nielsen received his Bachelor of General Studies in History from the University of Kansas where he received the Big 12 Conference Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship Award and was a member of the All-Big 12 Academic Team. He earned his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in 2009.
