Phillip C. Samouris of Higgs Fletcher & Mack Wins Million-Dollar Jury Verdict for Client in Fraud Case

San Diego – May 15, 2018 – Higgs Fletcher & Mack (HFM), one of San Diego’s premier law firms, today announced that business litigation attorney Phillip C. Samouris secured a jury verdict in Orange County Superior Court of more than $1 million on behalf of his client.

The dispute arose from the sale of assets of a compounding pharmacy to HFM’s client. HFM asserted that the seller of the pharmacy withheld important information about the pharmacy that, were it disclosed, would have prevented the sale and called into question the viability of the compounding pharmacy. Just months after the sale, the California Attorney General filed a formal accusation against the pharmacy for its illegal practices, which led to the closing of the pharmacy.

The jury awarded Samouris’ client the amount of their original investment, in addition to damages.

“It’s a good day when justice prevails,” said Samouris, lead counsel on the case and partner at HFM. “This case illustrates the importance of working with a lawyer when conducting a business transaction, to ensure all the details are properly documented, even when doing business with a friend. It also shows that it is equally important for each side in a business transaction to have their own attorney.”

Phillip C. Samouris has represented clients in business and commercial litigation in San Diego for more than 20 years. He has effectively represented companies in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret lawsuits, partnership and contractual disputes, interference with business relations, investor lawsuits, fraud, professional malpractice and employment issues.
