Rachel James is a family law partner licensed in California, Arizona, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. Her practice focuses on high-asset, high-conflict divorce matters.
Ms. James believes in an approach of professionalism, compassion and understanding of the emotional issues involved in divorce when working with her clients. She employs her thorough understanding of complex family law matters to protect the well-being of her clients and to guide them through the often emotionally difficult process of their family law case.
From paternity cases to divorces involving significant business assets, to handling cases involving domestic violence and custody disputes, Ms. James has assisted clients facing nearly every type of family law matter.
While practicing in Arizona, Ms. James was a volunteer at the Maricopa County Bar Association’s Legal Assistance to Women and Shelters, and she was the chair of the MCBA’s Race Judicata, raising money for domestic violence education. In 2010, she received the Young Lawyer Division Member of the Year award for her service
She has been elected to the California Western School of Law Alumni Association, Board of Directors for a three-year term. Her service to the San Diego community also includes serving as a trustee on the San Diego Law Library Foundation Board and staying active with the Equality and Action Committee of the Lawyers Club of San Diego. She is also actively involved with the San Diego Parents of Twins Club. In 2024, Ms. James was named one of the “Top Women of Influence in Law” by the San Diego Business Journal and has been recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America© for 2025.
