SAN DIEGO – May 11, 2015 – Higgs Fletcher & Mack LLP, a San Diego-based, full-service law firm for more than 75 years, announced today the launch of its Privacy and Information Security Practice Group.

We understand the role data security plays in all types of businesses. Our focus is to help businesses of all sizes develop reasonable, cost-effective solutions to help reduce the risk of data breaches. Now more than ever, a company’s data must be kept secure from competitors, hackers, and careless insiders. We’ve all seen an organization’s reputation critically damaged by a security breach in just a single day. Our job will be to work with clients to address all facets of data compliance challenges—from marketing claims and consumer/patient notices to breach prevention and mitigation.”

Higgs’ Privacy and Information Security Practice Group can perform a number of legal services for clients. This includes providing comprehensive privacy and security risk assessments and compliance audits as well as employee education and training. The team can also develop and draft privacy notices for businesses to provide customers as well as internal privacy policies and procedures for the appropriate collection, use, disclosure, storage and destruction of electronic data throughout the information life cycle.

“Whether it be a large corporation, a small business or a start-up, organizations will likely collect, analyze, and profit from information relevant to their customers and industry. How they gather and store the data is a critical consideration,” said William M. Low, a partner with Higgs Fletcher & Mack and the chair of its new Privacy and Information Security Practice Group. “Cyber attacks often trigger breach notification statutory duties and consumer class action litigation as well as state and federal regulatory action. We have experienced trial lawyers capable of handling a wide range of privacy-related litigation. Equally important, we work with clients to develop administrative, technical and physical safeguards for the protection of their sensitive information in order to minimize the risk of a data breach.”

In addition to Low, other Higgs attorneys that will be part of this group include Steven J. Cologne, Michael J. Hoisington and Charles F. Reidelbach.
