Higgs Fletcher & Mack Welcomes Partner Jonathan A. Grissom Back to the Firm

SAN DIEGO (January 25, 2021):  Higgs Fletcher & Mack (HFM) is proud to welcome Partner Jonathan A. Grissom back to the Firm, effective January 18, 2021.  Grissom spent over 12 years practicing at HFM earlier in his career.

In his business practice, Grissom focuses primarily on nonprofit organizations, representing a wide variety of public charities, private foundations, and other nonprofit organizations. His clients have included scientific research organizations, social welfare organizations, professional societies, trade groups, educational institutions and related groups, religious organizations, business leagues, hospitals and related groups, social clubs. He also represents organizations dedicated to animal welfare, environmental protection, human rights, arts and culture, and other philanthropic causes.

“The culture and sense of collegiality at Higgs Fletcher & Mack are wonderful,” said Grissom. “I’m happy to be reconnecting and collaborating with my HFM colleagues and I know the Firm’s strength and resources will allow me to provide great service to nonprofit organizations in San Diego and beyond.”

Grissom’s vast experience includes advising clients on startup and entity selection, operations, entity formation, applications for federal and state tax exempt status, regulatory compliance, fiscal sponsorships arrangements, compliance with applicable public support tests, charitable solicitations, tax-exempt bond financings, endowment funds, property tax exemption, political activities, lobbying, unrelated business income, contracts, joint ventures, grant making, program related investments, mergers and dissolutions.

“Jon’s practice has a very particular focus, and the work he has done with nonprofit organizations is very admirable,” said Steve Cologne, HFM’s Managing Partner. “We are excited to welcome Jon back to HFM and look forward to working together to assist and advise some great organizations.”

Grissom currently serves as Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of 211 San Diego, “a resource and information hub that connects people with community, health and disaster services.” He also chairs the Tax-Exempt Organizations Committee of the Taxation Section of the California Lawyers Association. He also co-authored the Continuing Education of the Bar treatise titled Advising California Nonprofit Corporations (2nd Edition), which addressed business and tax matters affecting nonprofit corporations.

Grissom earned his Juris Doctor and LL.M. degrees from the University of San Diego School of Law, and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Louis Obispo.
