Higgs Fletcher & Mack continues to be a proud supporter of the Foundation in its goal to advance the education and meet the needs of some of the Garfield High School’s most vulnerable students.

A history of the Thanksgiving Luncheon and the Garfield Culinary Arts Program

The Garfield High School Foundation, along with Lesley and David Cohn were committed to supporting professional Culinary Training. It started with a handful of kitchen tools, a crock pot, microwave and occasional access to an oven in another room. That was the kitchen when Garfield High School started the Culinary Arts Program in 1996 at the Oregon Street location.

The Foundation began planning for the opening of a Garfield restaurant. The project was strongly endorsed by community member Junior Seau. In 1997, the Foundation applied for tax exempt status and began fundraising. Fifteen years later, the program is in a 3,000 square feet state of the art A-rated restaurant with kitchen, dining room, outdoor patio and organic garden.
